 How To Measure

• Don't let anyone measure themselves! It's too easy to make a mistake, especially when measuring hard to reach places.

• Never simply ask an individual what size they wear. Fur sizing doesn't necessarily relate to standard "retail" sizes, and most people will give you their "best" retail size when asked. (Or they may guess at it, or even tell you what they wish their size was!)

• Don't let them "suck it in"! If they do, they'll pay for it later with a fit that's probably too snug. Just have them stand erect and relaxed.

• Have them wear the actual shoes that will be worn with the coat. With full length coats, the style and type of shoe will affect the coat length. Keep this in mind when measuring. We don't want coats to drag the floor or be cut too short.

• Order a larger size if measurements fall between two sizes.

 Measuring Women

Sleeve Length: Standing in front of her, have her hold one arm chest high and parallel to the ground. Have her bend at the elbow and touch her nose. Measure from the bottom center of the neck (the round bone at the top of the spine), down the arm, across the elbow to the far end of the wrist bone. The number of inches shown is the sleeve length.

Chest / Bust: Standing to her side, slide the measuring tape up under her arms, holding the tape firmly. Measure around her body, across her shoulder blades and the fullest part of her bust. For an accurate measurement, she should keep her arms to her sides as much as possible. The number of inches shown is her chest / bust measurement.

Crossback: Standing behind her, measure across the fullest part of her shoulders - - from edge to edge. The number of inches shown is the "crossback" measurement. Please note: crossback is measured across the back, from the edge of one shoulder, to the edge of the other - not all the way around the body! This usually varies from 14" to 20".

Waist: Standing to her side, measure around her natural waistline. The number of inches measured is her waist size.

Seat (Hips): Standing to her side, measure around the fullest part of her hips. Start seven to eight inches below the natural waistline. If the tape can be easily moved up and down, it's around the fullest part. The number of inches read is her hip or "seat" measurement.

Length: Standing behind her, have her stand with both feet on the ground, legs straight and slightly apart. Have her hold one end of the measuring tape to the base of her neck (the round bone at the top of the spine.) Straighten the tape down her back and to the top of her shoe. The number of inches shown is her length. Remember - this measurement will be more accurate if she is wearing the actual shoes she will wear with the garment. For example, high heels.

If you're measuring for a jacket, measure from the base of the neck to the desired length - - the waistline, generally.

 Hat Sizing

Place a tape measure above the ears, and measure around the widest part of your head. Do not pull the tape tight. If between sizes, go to the next size.
